New York Stock Exchange Selects SeriousGlass for Energy-Saving Glass Retrofit

Sunnyvale, CA – October 3, 2011 - Serious Energy, Inc. today announced that its super-insulating SeriousGlass commercial glass has been installed in the New York Stock Exchange building, a designated National Historic Landmark. SeriousGlass was selected to modernize the 104-year-old building to reduce energy use while maximizing natural daylighting and improving year-round comfort. The SeriousGlass retrofit will increase the thermal performance by almost 60% and reduce solar heat gain by 40% compared to the original glass. Approved by the Landmark Preservation Commission, SeriousGlass enables state-of-the-art, high energy performance for the building without altering the aesthetics or integrity of the building’s historic exterior. The same SeriousGlass technology was utilized for the retrofit of all 6,514 windows of the Empire State Building as a critical part of its whole building energy efficiency retrofit project.

SeriousGlass Improves Energy Efficiency and Indoor Comfort

As a building with relatively high internal loads, the New York Stock Exchange requires a delicate balance of air-conditional levels and large window coverings to mitigate solar gain. In addition, the many electronic displays throughout the trading floor also called for a glass retrofit solution that balances artificial and natural light. The SeriousGlass energy efficiency replacement:

• Improves the original center-of-glass R-value by 250% (from 2.11 to 5.46) with super-insulating SeriousGlass - a level that would otherwise require six panes of standard glass to exceed.
• Minimizes solar heat gain (SHGC of 0.33) while providing higher visible light transmission of 53 percent for a cool and comfortable environment that lowers HVAC system loads and building operating costs, and enhances view from the inside out.
• Improves the aesthetics of the existing, single-pane glass without significantly altering the traditional exterior and maintains a more consistent, comfortable indoor environment.
• Reduces harmful impacts and interior fading by blocking 99.9 percent of UV rays.
• Dramatically reduces and potentially eliminates the need to use steam radiator pipes which had previously been used to warm the glass in the winter to keep it from condensing and dripping below.
